First Quarter - August 13, 2018 to October 12, 2018
Monday, August 20 - Students took notes while reviewed the Federalist and Democratic-Republican parties.
Tuesday, August 21 - Students finished the notes from Monday and watched a video about the presidency of John Quincy Adams. Their assignment was to complete a set of questions about the video.
Wednesday, August 22 - We read and discussed the Election of 1824 and discussed the"corrupt bargain". Students filled out notes as class progressed. They have 6 vocabulary words that need to be defined by tomorrow.
Thursday, August 23 - Students completed notes over the Election of 1828. They will be given an in-class assignment tomorrow over Chapter 11-Section 1, parts I,II, and III.
Friday, August 31 - I have been absent this week. I apologize for not updating this site. Students reviewed what was learned during my absence in regards to Andrew Jackson's presidency, the Nullification Process and tariffs. I would normally give students a quiz over the section. I will not do this with 11-1.
Tuesday, Sept. 4 - Students graded the John Quincy Adams video assignment. They were also given a Student Growth Assessment. There is no assignment tonight.
Wednesday, Sept. 5 - The class is discussing the groups of people that Andrew Jackson had difficulty with. The rest of the chapter was reviewed and the students were given an assignment to contemplate for a future project; is Andrew Jackson a hero or a villain ?
Thursday, Sept. 6 - Students finished the Andrew Jackson notes over the History Channel video. Section 1 vocabulary was also reviewed.
Monday, Sept. 10 - Students completed their maps of Africa from Friday. Today they labeled the countries and capitals of northern Africa. There will be a quiz in 2 weeks.
Tuesday, Sept. 11 - Students are to take notes over Chapter 11-Section 2. A notes sheet was given to them to fill out.
Thursday, Sept. 13 - The students and I went over the notes they filled out about Chapter 11-Section 2. We began discussing and taking notes over the Indian Removal Act.
Friday, Sept. 14 - Notes were completed over section 2. There will be two assignments and a quiz next week over information from this section of Chapter 11.
Monday, Sept. 17 - Students had the opportunity to complete the geography assignment from Friday. Students also added to their map of Northern Africa. There will be a geography quiz on Friday, Sept. 28th.
Tuesday, Sept. 18 - Chapter 11-Section 2 was reviewed. WS.34 was an in-class assignment. There will be a quiz tomorrow. Students are allowed to use their notes. Preparation for the quiz is encouraged.
Thursday, Sept. 20 - Quizzes were returned today. Students practiced for next week's geography quiz over Northern Africa.
Friday, Sept. 21 - Students had an in-class assignment about Africa's geography. There will be a map quiz next Friday over Northern Africa.
Monday, Sept. 24 - Students were given an overview of Chapter 11-Section 3 today. They were assigned groups in class today to complete independent notes.
Thursday, Sept. 27 - Students continued working on the presidential videos over Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, and John Tyler. These are due Monday. There will be a Geography quiz tomorrow over North Africa. No binders can be used.
Tuesday, Oct. 9 - Students were given a study guide over Chapter 11. It is due tomorrow. The chapter test will be on Friday.
Wednesday, Oct. 10 - Students checked their answers to last night's study guide. This grade was not recorded. The test is Friday.
Second Quarter - October 15, 2018 to December 20, 2018
Monday, Oct. 15 - Students tests were returned today. Students reviewed the political divisions of Western Africa. The quiz is Thursday. No binders may be used during the quiz.
Tuesday, Oct. 16 - Student began chapter 12 today. They will be learning about the Westward Expansion and the idea of Manifest Destiny. They worked on a map in class today. They will complete it tomorrow.
Monday, Oct. 22 - West Africa quizzes were returned today. Students reviewed information learned about Presidents John Quincy Adams to John Tyler. There will be a quiz on Wednesday over these presidents. They may use their binders.
Tuesday, Oct. 23 - Students began taking notes over sections of land that were acquired during the Westward Expansion.
Wednesday, Oct. 24 - Students took a quiz today over US Presidents John Quincy Adams to John Tyler. They were able to use their notes. Grades will be posted tonight.
Monday, Oct. 29 - Students labeled the countries and capital cities of central Africa. Students completed notes over the Adams-Onis Treaty (Florida) and the Webster-Ashburton Treaty (Maine).
Monday, Nov. 5 - Students have completed a majority of the notes concerning the first half of America's Westward Expansion along with a map. Today they worked on an assignment from the book. It was due at the end of class. There will be another assignment and a quiz this week.
Monday, Nov. 26 - I apologize for the lack of information the last few weeks. I will get back on track starting today. Today students reviewed the timeline notes from 12-2. We worked on vocabulary together and they completed an in-class assignment. A few did not finish and they will be given some additional time tomorrow. There is a quiz planned for Thursday.
Tuesday, Nov. 27 - Students reviewed 7-2. Group 8-1 had yesterday's in-class assignment graded and returned to them. Group 8-2 will get this assignment back tomorrow. We discussed and defined 7 events from this section. Students were grouped to complete a Cause and Effect chart.
Thursday, Nov. 29 - Students used their notes over the Texas Revolution to take a quiz. These will be returned tomorrow in class.
Friday, Nov. 30 - Students received their quizzes back from yesterday. They also filled out a political map of Eastern Africa.
All grades were updated on TeacherEase at 2:00 today.
Monday, Dec. 10 - Students were to have a quiz today, but during review I determined they were not prepared. We reviewed chapter 12 section 3 and students were given an in-class assignment. The quiz will be tomorrow. There will not be a test over chapter 12, but there will be a binder check after tomorrow's quiz.
Tuesday, Dec. 11 - Students took a quiz over 12-3. There was a binder check, but there will not be a test.
Monday, Dec. 17 - Students will have a quiz over eastern Africa tomorrow.
Third Quarter - January 2, 2019 to March 8, 2019
Monday, Jan. 7 - Students completed, checked and corrected their Geography assignment from Friday. The quiz over Southern Africa will be on January 25th.
Wednesday, Jan. 9 - Students started the Civil War unit today. We discussed what students already knew about the Civil War and what they want to learn about this time in American history.
Wednesday, Jan. 16 - Students reviewed what they learned from the History Channel video, America: The Story of Us - Division and completed comprehension questions about the topics.
Friday, Jan. 18 - Notes have been taken the last two days concerning the economy and advancements of the Northern states prior to the Civil War.
Monday, Jan. 21 - No School, MLK Jr. Day
Tuesday, Jan. 22 - No School, Snow Day
Wednesday, Jan. 23 - Students used the resources on Google Classroom to prepare for Friday's geography quiz. Section 8-1 also worked on notes in regards to the economy of the North prior to the Civil War. Section 8-2 is ahead.
Thursday, Jan. 24 - notes were completed over the North's Economy today. There will be an in-class assignment tomorrow after the Geography quiz.
Friday, Jan. 31 - Students completed work from Tuesday during class.
Monday, Feb. 11 - Students are finished with the Africa geography unit. They had a binder check today and an in-class assignment.
Tuesday, Feb. 12 - Students worked in groups to compare life and living conditions in the North and the South prior to the Civil War.
Wednesday, Feb. 20 - Students had an in-class assignment. There will be an essay on Thursday and a quiz on Friday.
Fourth Quarter - March 11, 2019 to May 17, 2019
Monday, March 11 - Students began a new section of Geography. They will be learning about Asia, more specifically Indonesia, for the next two weeks. They labeled a map and Googled images of the islands of Indonesia.
Tuesday, March 12 - Students were given an overview of 15-2 then read the section and fill out notes. 1st hour notes will be due on Friday. 8th hour notes will be due tomorrow. This arrangement is due to 8th grade speeches.
