A teaching job share is two certified, experienced teachers sharing/teaching one classroom of students. In this specific opportunity, Mrs. Weir will be teaching the morning which includes all literacy (reading, writing, word study and vocabulary). Mrs. Siglin will be teaching the afternoon which includes math and science/social studies. Both teachers will be responsible for the social emotional curriculum and building classroom community. There is an overlap in the day where both teachers will be at school together to communicate and plan effectively. Both teachers will be in attendance for virtual "Meet the Teacher", Curriculum Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Open House and all professional development/staff meetings.
Mrs. Siglin and Mrs. Weir both prefer email correspondence, which is the quickest way to communicate throughout the day. It is preferred that you address both teachers in the email, unless it is specific to a subject or teacher. Communication is key in any home/school relationship, and a priority for Mrs. Siglin and Mrs. Weir.
A teaching job share has many benefits for both the student and parent. In a job share your child will have the advantage of two different teachers getting to know him/her academically, socially, and emotionally. The constant communication allows both teachers to discuss what they observe and how to problem solve immediately. Two teachers working for the benefit of your child means two teachers advocating for their specific needs. A job share also allows each teacher to "specialize" in one/two curriculum areas. The time each teacher is at school will be focused on a specific subject, but both teachers will plan together to work across the curriculum to integrate content and areas of interest. The day will be split between Mrs. Siglin and Mrs. Weir which also helps the children reboot throughout the day. A fresh set of eyes after lunch with a renewed energy helps your son/daughter stay engaged from arrival to dismissal.
Another benefit of a job share is the opportunity for the other classroom teacher to "sub" for the teacher who is absent. This may not always be possible, but it will allow for minimal disruption to the school day and classroom learning. Mrs. Spillson, Room 220's teaching assistant, will also be available to sub in the classroom if needed.
