What is Apple Teacher Certification?

Apple Teacher certification is self-paced learning provided by Apple to help teachers learn about the native apps, functionality, and creative potential of the iPad. This certification is obtained by working through the 6 modules in the Apple Teacher Learning Center (which include hands on application on the iPad) and taking the corresponding quiz for each module online. Because this learning opportunity is thought to provide valuable insight into the tool and how it may be used in the classroom, the Board approved providing a $260 stipend for each teacher PK-8 to complete this learning. That stipend was determined based on the time it takes to complete the certification.

Expectations / Timeline:

The expectation is that when your grade level implements iPads in the classroom, you complete your Apple Teacher certification by the end of that school year. (K, 3rd, 6th: June 2019, 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th: June 2020, 2nd, 5th and other certified staff: June 2021) Any teacher is welcome to complete the learning earlier if they choose to do so.

How to complete Apple Teacher Certification:

1. Create an account at the Apple Teacher Learning Center site. Apple recommends you use a personal email address for this account.
2. Work through the modules under the Learn Badges for iPad section.
3. Take the quiz for each module Apple Teacher Learning Center on your laptop. You will want to have your iPad nearby to try things as you take the quizzes. (Example: When taking the GarageBand quiz, have the GarageBand app open on your iPad)
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all 6 modules.
5. Log into Google Classroom and submit your certificate of completion. If you need to join one of these Google Classrooms, contact Judi Epcke.
