Digital Media is the entry point into CTE Arts for Junior High students. You'll explore the foundations of visual art — line, shape, color, texture, composition — and learn how to apply those fundamentals using digital tools.
But this class is about more than creating cool things. You'll also develop the mindset of a responsible digital citizen: understanding how to engage with creative work online, respect intellectual property, protect your own work, and build a digital presence you're proud of.
No experience required. Curiosity is enough.
Art fundamentals: line, shape, value, color, texture, and composition
Introduction to digital drawing and design tools: Procreate and Affinity software
Basic photo editing and image manipulation
How digital art is made, shared, and published
Digital citizenship: copyright, Creative Commons, responsible sharing, and online safety
Building a positive digital footprint as a creative person
In a world where everything you create can be shared instantly, knowing how to navigate that world responsibly is a skill. In Digital Media, you'll learn how copyright affects your creative work, how to find and use images legally, and how to think critically about your presence online.
These aren't just rules — they're professional skills that every working creative needs.
Digital Media is designed as the on-ramp to the rest of the CTE Arts program. Students who start here are prepared to move into:
Design Foundations — build on digital art skills with professional design principles
Commercial Art — take your designs into a real production and sales environment
Yearbook — apply photography and layout skills to a real publication
FBLA — explore the business side of the creative industry
