Writing

In our first opinion writing unit, students have the opportunity to write about things, places, and causes they love. First, writers examine collections of their own and give awards for the *Best,* *Most Useful,* or *One I'd Most Like to See Come to Life." Next, they write reviews of favorite games, restaurants, books, apps, and vacation spots. Finally, they choose a cause or topic they're passionate about--more recess! composting! all gender sports teams!--and craft persuasive speeches with an audience in mind.

In each part of the unit, students learn to support their opinions with strong reasons and supporting details.
