Irving Middle School partners with OGE to become one of three Schools Renewable Energy Pilot sites.
The three year study will demonstrate the capability of renewable energy technology to deliver overall value to the school/education segment.
Norman Public Schools is excited to share the addition of an agrivoltaic system to the solar outdoor classroom at Irving Middle School. The agrivoltaic system is being donated to Irving through a partnership with Oklahoma General Electric. When OGE learned about the solar classroom project at Irving, it became obvious that the site would be perfect for the schools renewable energy pilot they were preparing to launch in 2022. Specifically, this demonstration pilot will seek to test several combinations of technologies, rates, funding sources, and applications. It will also assess how solar and energy storage technologies can reduce peak demand, provide clean energy, reduce energy waste, realize societal benefits, and lower operating costs.

The OGE Agrivoltaic System will be the first in the nation installed at a public school. It will offset 2% of Irving's annual energy comsumption.
By offsetting just 2% of Irving's annual energy consumption, the school can save $163,000 over 30 years.
