Dual Credit Courses

There are many requirements and other essential information that the student must complete and heed to in order to be able to take dual credit courses.

  • The student must be proficient in the areas of reading, mathematics, and science as evidenced by achievement scores on the most recent administration of the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASPS) for which scores are available for the upcoming school year.

  • Students must complete and return by the deadline all the forms necessary for enrollment. All forms must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. These forms may be picked up in the high school school counselors office.

  • First time SWCC students must attend orientation.

  • If the students count a college course as one of their eight mandatory high school credits for the semester, they must pass the class to participate in athletics.

  • Career and technical education programs are available to Nodaway Valley students through Southwestern Community College. Some of the programs available are automotive repair, carpentry, welding, and computer information systems. Students are responsible for their own transportation for these programs. Since these programs can require up to 2 class periods of the school day, they are realistically only accessible to Juniors or Seniors.
