Cosmetology

The City Colleges of Chicago offers the least expensive and fastest pathway to become a cosmetologist, with a focus in hair styling, or a barber. You pay tuition, but most should be covered through FAFSA.

Timeline: 4 - 8 months. Sign up on a traditional college semester timeline.

Note: These programs include preparation for certification exams to earn your license in the field, but you must sign up for the exam on your own. Must be eligible for English 96 on placement test.

Ms. Robert's Beauty Academy offers certification courses to become a cosmetologist or nail technician. You pay tuition, but Pell Grants and Federal Student Loans are accepted.

Timeline: 1 year (full-time) or 2 years (part-time).

Note: 95% of students who completed the program passed the state exam to earn their license in cosmetology.
