Fairness to the teacher
balancing work and life
Students with excused absences, or who miss class for a field trip, are always welcome to make up their work for full credit. They should get it done within five days unless there are extenuating circumstances. Please talk with me if there is a major concern -- I can't help you if I don't know.
Students who forget or who choose to not do homework may also make up their work in order to keep up with what is being studied in class and to prevent zeros. The work may lock in Canvas within a week, so if you forget, you will have to discuss a solution with me.
Our class notes are posted to Canvas weekly. Absent students should open the Spanish 1 or Spanish 3 tab and scroll to the current unit. Each day's notes are listed by class and date. Open the notes and write things down in your notebook. Absent students have five days to get the work to me. Everyone may also visit the posted lessons and pages area of this blog.
The day's lesson notes have the do now (cafecito / "engage"), the objectives (learning targets), the lesson steps and theassignments in addition to (almost) anything we used throughout class. Handouts (when copyright allows), powerpoints and more are also saved to the blog nightly.
Students are given a syllabus to start each marking period, and that contains the units' themes and dates for quizzes and tests as well. Quiz and test dates may be adjusted depending on the overall learning pace, students' needs, weather events and school activities.
Why do I accept late work? I want you to learn the material. Bill collectors accept late payments. However: eventually the lights and water are turned off for non-payment. School helps prepare young people for their future adult world. It is better to learn about what happens when due dates are passed while in school than have a rough experience later on. NNPS wants to prepare students to be College, Career and Citizen ready.
