Band is Going Remote!

Band is now going remote! This page explains how the class is going to work while we are out of school.

Every "School Day" morning, I am going to post two short assignments. The first will be a written assignment, and the second will be a practice assignment. Both assignments will be posted on Google Classroom... make sure that your child has access to this platform!

Work Expectations

Although students can (and are encouraged to) complete both assignments each day, the completion of ONLY ONE assignment is required. Both assignments will be of musical and educational value to your child. Currently (and as of VDOE policy), no assignments will be graded until students return and are given ample opportunity to complete the assignments after we return. But, it is expected that if they have access to a device and internet, they should be completing school work.

If the student is only able to complete one assignment for the day, the practice assignment is preferred because it will be most useful for their continued musical growth on their instrument. It is also more fun! Students who do not have their instruments must complete the written work in place of the practice assignments.

Practice Assignments

I will provide a link to either SmartMusic or Sight Reading Factory in Google Classroom. Student will complete the assignment and submit it through this platform. If your child does not have access to either of these devices, they can submit the google practice form describing what they worked on and practiced.

Written Assignments

I will loosely be following a schedule for written work. It will look like this:

    • Monday: Note reading exercise
    • Tuesday: Listening exercise
    • Wednesday: Rhythm reading exercise
    • Thursday: Composition exercise
    • Friday: Composer biography exercise

Feedback

I will do my best to give feedback for your work! I am not sure how this feedback will look at this time. Most likely it will be communicated via comments on google classroom. SmartMusic does an awesome job of providing instant feedback on all of their exercises! SmartMusic and Sight Reading Factory also record any quizzes that are performed, and I will be listening to those.

Virtual Classroom Meetings and Recitals

I am looking into meeting virtually using a video chat platform. These will not be required, but encouraged. Students will have the opportunity to talk with each other, ask questions, and give "Recitals" of the music they are working on.
