On June 8th all 8th grade students will be saying goodbye to Tewinkle and moving on to start their next chapter as freshman. Promotion will be held at Estancia High School at 6:00 pm but students must arrive at 5:30 pm to meet with their first period teacher and to be lined up by last name. As of right now all family and friends will be able to attend this event without any exceptions. Students are not allowed to carry any items with them during the ceremony. Phones will be turned in. There will also be one student giving a speech and the TeWinkle band will be performing.

Jana Akins will be attending Estancia High School after she is promoted, but she states that she is very overwhelmed with the new school year and new experiences. Overall, she is very excited. Along with Jana, Abby Rivas says that she is thrilled for promotion because she has been waiting since 7th grade. It's a special event to be promoted to high school.

Boomers

It’s that time of year. The final trip before the 8th graders are sent off to different high schools. This year's choice of a trip is none other than Boomers, located in Irvine, CA. Now why was Boomers the choice? What is Boomers? When are the 8th graders going? What’s in the amusement park and what would the 8th graders do there?

For starters, what is Boomers? Well it’s an amusement park containing; Miniature Golf, Go Karts, Laser Tag, an Arcade, and a few more choices of fun. This establishment was founded in the year 1998 and since then has been growing. Its original name was ‘Palace Park’, but has been changed since it was branded by another company in 2001.

Moving on, why is this the trip that is chosen? “Well, it’s a tradition” Ms. Delgado says, “Before Covid happened, TeWinkle had been going to Boomers for 5 years.”Ms. Delgado is in charge of the field trip. Other staff helping her are Mrs. Debbie, Dr. Potnis, and Mr. Valenzuela

Why are the 8th graders going ? It's a farewell gift, a cherishable memory before the 8th graders move on to their next chapter of their lives. “A day to have fun” Ms. Delgado quotes. No worries, just a good fun time. What does this day include? It costs $25 for the entry fee (alongside the permission slip), for this deal it includes; Unlimited video games, a free lunch, and a churro. Overall a good deal. The departure date and time is; 6/1/22 at 10:45 AM. They will be returning at 4:15 pm.

Hayley Baires thinks it’s, “A very good idea, and I’m glad that the school took time and money from their pocket, and to give us this final trip as 8th graders. As we know, 8th grade has been pretty hard since of Covid, and I’m glad that we are able to have this final experience”

Overall, it’s a fun day coming up for the 8th graders. A memory that will stick with the students for years to come! Remember 8th graders, to thank the staff for planning this trip.

Bye Bye Eight Graders!

With promotion coming up and the school year ending. I'm sure it's safe to say “Goodbye eighth graders.”

I interviewed a few of our eight graders to see what they have to say about starting high school and how they are feeling:

Valerie Leon says, “I am going to miss the middle school environment but I'm also looking forward to new experiences and opportunities as well as meeting new people and making new memories. I'm definitely going to miss the staff and my current elective, which is publications.”

Darryl Ezel continued with, “I'm definitely going to miss middle school because of all the memories, but I'm also ready for a new adventure in high school. I'm really looking forward to working in ASB since I made it to the class. Also supporting my new high school a lot since I'm a cheerleader in training.”

The next person who was interviewed was Sophia Lopez, one of our current ASB members. “I’m going to start Estancia high school next year which is super exciting for me. I can't wait to make more friends and take on new opportunities.”

Lastly I interviewed Javier Lopez and he responded with, “I'm feeling good about going to Estancia. I'm going to miss Hector and Mr. Taylor. I'm excited to try out for the boys soccer and play for Estancia.”

Our school has a very open environment where everyone knows each other. I'm sure the teachers and staff are going to miss the eighth graders and the class of 2026 as a whole.

Whether you like to run, jump, or chuck things as far as you can, track and field accommodates all people’s interests.

There are approximately 25 people on TeWinkle’s track and field team. Each member has the choice to participate in one to three events. Managing the controlled chaos of practices is Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Koutzoukis, Mr. Yoast and Oscar.

The events available to the members of the track and field team are sprints, such as the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter as well as long distance runs such as the 800 meter, and 1600 meter. If running isn’t their thing, long jump, high jump, and shot put are also available..

The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday for an hour after school. In all, there are four meets this season. The prelims (semifinals) happened Tuesday, May 24th, and, if some members of the TeWinkle team qualify, finals will be held Thursday the 26th.

So far the track and field meets have been held at Estancia and Costa Mesa Middle. The Prelims were also held at Costa Mesa Middle and Finals will be at Corona Del Mar.
