Supply List

Dear Parents/Guardians,

For the 2023-2024 school year the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has prepared guidelines for the school supply list. The list below meets those guidelines.

Many parents have chosen to send their children to school with all of these items and have relied on the teacher to oversee the distribution. If preferable, parents can manage the supplies. Regardless, some of these supplies will have to be replenished throughout the year as they are consumable (marked with an asterisk). Either system can be successful. You know your child best. It is our experience, over many years, that most students have difficulty managing their own supplies, especially in the early grades.

Student responsibility for their own supplies is expected to increase as they move forward through the grades. For example, Grade 4 students are becoming more responsible but their teachers usually have a more hands-on approach to handling materials. Grade 7 students are entirely responsible for their own supplies and bringing an entire year’s materials would not be advisable. Regardless of the circumstance, no child will be without the basic supplies (writing utensil and paper).

There are many different systems for distribution and management of school supplies. Many of our teachers offer to help you by establishing a system. Please check with your child’s teacher to determine the system that will be in place in his/her classroom.

JRS is not responsible for the consumable school supplies of children. If you have any questions you may wish to refer to the government website @ http://www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/faq/schoolfees.html

If the teacher is managing these supplies, all material not used will be returned to the student at the end of the year.
