In our district, mathematics is more than the study of numbers; it is a vehicle for developing critical thinking, perseverance, and logical reasoning. Our curriculum is fully aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS-M) and is designed to move students from foundational understanding to complex, real-world application.
We ensure students have a strong "mathematical toolbelt," allowing them to solve problems accurately and efficiently.
We foster a classroom culture where "getting stuck" is viewed as a vital part of the learning process. Students are taught to try multiple strategies and remain resilient when facing complex challenges.
We move beyond "how" to "why." Students are encouraged to look for patterns, make connections between ideas, and justify their reasoning.
Our mathematics journey is designed as a continuous progression, building from hands-on exploration in elementary school to abstract algebraic reasoning in middle school.
In the elementary years, we utilize Investigations 3, a program that supports students and teachers in making sense of mathematical ideas.
Inquiry-Based & Hands-On: Students explore concepts through physical manipulatives and digital resources before moving to abstract symbols.
Flexible Learning Procedures: We value diverse ways of thinking, teaching multiple strategies so students can choose the most efficient path for a given problem.
Inclusive & Accessible: Our resources are available in both English and Spanish to ensure all students can engage deeply with the content.
Mathematics 6–8: Connected Mathematics 3 (CMP3)
Our middle school mathematics program, Connected Mathematics 3 (CMP3), is the natural extension of the inquiry-based work students began in elementary school with Investigations. Developed by Michigan State University and published by Savvas, CMP3 ensures a continuous, coherent learning experience from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Why CMP3?
Seamless Transition: Just like in grades K–5, students continue to learn through problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application. The visual models and "why-before-how" approach remain consistent, so students don't lose ground as they adapt to a new teaching style.
Research-Based: CMP3 is one of the most widely respected, university-developed curricula in the country, focused on deep conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization.
8th Grade & Algebra In 8th grade, our math classes are tiered to meet students where they are. We uniquely utilize the Connected Math Algebra pathway for our accelerated students. This curriculum combines core 8th-grade concepts with high-level Algebra standards using the same resources and pedagogy students are already comfortable with. This allows students to advance from 7th grade directly into high-school level Algebra without the "curriculum shock" or gaps that often occur when switching programs.

As a district, we adhere to the guidance provided by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), which emphasizes that high-quality assessments and curriculum are essential levers for understanding student needs. Our mathematics program is continuously refined based on student data to ensure we are enhancing instruction in every classroom across the district.
