In accordance with New Jersey law, we conduct early literacy universal screening to monitor reading development. While the state requires this for grades K-3, our district extends this practice through grade five, administering assessments three times per year to ensure every child becomes a successful reader.
Most students participate in DIBELS 8th Edition, a short screening administered by familiar staff.
Timeline: Screenings occur in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Reporting: DIBELS results are shared as performance levels (At, Above, Below, or Well Below)
Partnering in Your Child's Reading Journey
In Ringwood, we believe that literacy is the foundation for all future learning. To ensure every student becomes a confident reader, we utilize DIBELS as a quick, one-on-one assessment that helps us understand your child's unique reading needs. This short check-in, which takes only 1–3 minutes, allows our teachers to identify which skills to focus on next and how to provide the best early support. Explore the guide below to learn more about how we measure growth and how you can support reading habits at home.
