I am very happy to have your child in my reading and/or English language arts class this year. Sixth grade is an exciting year of growth, learning, and maturity for children. High expectations in the classroom can help sixth graders become the best they can be. There is a connection between good grades and good classroom behavior and poor grades and poor classroom behavior. Let’s work together so your child can be the best he/she can be and learn all he/she can this year!
Below are the rules I expect all students to follow in my classroom. I have also posted the consequences for breaking these rules. I do give a verbal warning first in order to allow the child to “fix” his/her behavior and make a good choice. However, if after the verbal warning the child continues to break the rule, consequences will be issued.
Mrs. Houston’s Classroom Rules:
1. Allow the teacher to teach and your classmates to learn.
2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
3. Follow directions the first time asked.
4. Be prepared for class.
5. Be respectful to the teacher, classmates, and yourself.
6. Stay on task.
Consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Loss of privileges
3. Owe time after class
4. Detention
5. Behavior reflection letter-one page in length
6. Parent Contact
Parents will be contacted by phone for disrespectful behavior and consistent breaking of the rules.
Parents will also be contacted if a student is not staying on task and completing assignments.
