Summary by Lucy Ramsey
At the beginning of the book Eggs we met the main character, David. It was around Easter time and a year ago Davids mom had died from a slip. He was not taking it too well, his father is a salesman so he is always on the road, his grandma is the one that takes care of him most of the time. Eventually his Grandmother had asked him if he wanted to go to an Easter egg hunt with her, he really didn't want to but his dad said it would be fun and take his mind off of things, so he went. While at the Easter egg hunt he saw this girl in the bushes he thought she was dead, but he just decided to leave her alone. The next day David saw her alive, walking alone, he decided to talk to her. Eventually he met her, he figured out her name, Primrose.
βHe still heard his mother's voice--"Davey"--rise like whisper-dust from unseen corners in the house, but it was no longer the only voice he heard. His ears were also filled with the voices of others--his father and Primrose and his grandmother. Of course, all of their words for a thousand years could not fill the hole left by his mother, but they could raise a loving fence around it so he didn't keep falling in.β
β Jerry Spinelli, Eggs
They became friends, They had gotten closer and closer. Primrose's dad had left her whenever she was a baby so he was never really in the frame and her mother is a fortuneteller that believes a bunch of things that couldn't possibly be true, so Primrose chooses not to follow after her. After David found out about Primroses family, he figured they had a lot in common. They now have formed a very tight relationship with each other. They have helped each other through their losses and their conflicts, now they are inseparable. I think that its a very special friendship that they have and all though Primrose can not fill that void, she really does help. I think that the moral of the story is that once you find good friend ships, they get you through anything. David is a very kind character, he always follows rules, Primrose is a very out going, kiddish, bossy girl. They are the perfect pair for best friends.
βOf course, all of their words for a thousand years could not fill the hole left by his mother, but they could raise a loving fence around it so he didn't keep falling in.β
β Jerry Spinelli, Eggs
Jerry Spinellis life connects to his book eggs because The book eggs is about a relationship that developed through both of the characters loneliness and losses. It also showed that friend ship does not just happen and it takes time. I think Jerry Spinelli related this to his pass experiences, as a child he had big, different dreams and he was kinda different then people but then he found what he liked and it got better for him. Eventually he developed good friendships but he just had to wait and be patient for them.
In eggs Primrose and David did not feel like they belonged with the Β¨group.Β¨ But once they found each other they realized how much they had in common they became friends and realized you did not need to belong to be happy. I feel like eggs and Star girl by Jerry Spinelli also relate with each other because Star girl was also someone that did not fit in but then people realized there situation. I think Jerry Spinelli wants kids to know the situation there in will be fine and it takes time to get a friend ship because he knows from pass experiences.
