Library Membership and General Rules
All the students, faculty, and employees of the Institute are entitled to be a members of the Institute Central Library. Entitlement, borrowing period, fine on overdue charges, and other terms and conditions are mentioned below,
Membership Category and Entitlement
Faculty Member - 10 books for one year.
Staff Members - 05 Books for six months
UG and PG Students - 05 Books for 15 Days
PhD Scholars - 05 Books for three months
Note: An extra 02 books are given to students from book banks for a semester.
Issue and Return Checks.
The readers should check the book’s condition, missing pages, chapters, etc., while getting the book issued.
No book in damaged condition will be returned/accepted by the reader on return. Damaged books will have to be replaced with new books by the borrower. The user is responsible for returning the book in the proper condition as issued.
Cost Recovery of Books (Lost or Damaged)
The lost or damaged book should be replaced by a new book with overdue charges (if any) with Rs.100/- processing charge. The processing charge applies to the replacement of books.
If the book is out of print or unavailable in the market, three times the cost mentioned in the Accession register should be charged.
The book's cost in foreign currency will be charged at the current month’s GOC currency conversion rate.
There is a fine of Rs.0.50/day on all overdue books. Users are advised to return/renew the issued books before the due date.
Loss of Identity Card/ Library Card
Borrowers shall be responsible for any loss or misuse of their original/ duplicate card.
The loss of the Identity Card should be reported to the Institute Security Office and Circulation Counter of the Library. The concerned section will issue a duplicate Identity Card by collecting Rs.200/-, the cost of the same ID card.
Terms of the Membership
If any member is found misusing/ mutilating/ stealing/ cutting pages from books, damaging computers and electronic devices, or any other Institute Property, the primary disciplinary measure invokes revoking user privileges in all respects of library use. It refers the matter to the competent authority. User reinstatement privileges are only subject to the authority’s discretion in such cases. Repeated violations of set rules or improper use of the facilities by any member will permanently suspend or terminate their membership.
When a user permanently leaves the Institute, either academic course completed/ name dropped from the Institute, or Library Clearance Issued, the user’s name (s) will be removed from the library’s active members list.
Other Terms and Conditions
Members must bring their ID cards to enter the library and produce the same for the security and staff as and when asked for.
Changes in the roll number, department, status, e-mail, address, etc., to be informed to the library for seamless services and updates.
Personal books and laptops can be allowed in the library for reading purposes. Students can use them in the reading room on the ground floor. Readers are responsible for the safety of their materials.
Books must be presented physically at the Counter for renewal.
The issued books must be returned before the due date. The fine applies to overdue books. Members are requested to pay the outstanding charges into the institute bank account and submit the receipt (attested and issued by the bank) to the library. The library will clear the due only after verifying the payment.
Books or other materials taken from the stacks should not be re-shelved by the readers. Books should be left on the table for keeping the books after reading.
Readers are requested to follow the Queue System at the Circulation Counter.
While leaving the library, the reader should allow the library/security staff to check their reading material and personal belongings carried inside the library.
Readers should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate, or damage library material in any way. If anyone is found doing so, they will be charged the total replacement cost of the material, and their membership may be terminated. Library-issued materials should be protected from Rain, Dust, Insects, etc. The damaged material will not be taken aback.
Chairs and tables should not be disturbed from their positions. However, readers are allowed to use the facility. Readers are requested to sit appropriately while in the library. They should avoid resting their feet on tables, chairs, shelves, or walls.
Do not move books/journals from one area to another.
The library card is non-transferable. Do not give an ID card to others; the library will not allow others on the same ID card.
The holder of an ID-Card is responsible for any book issued against it, as shown by library records.
Mobile phones should be kept silent or off mode in the library. The use of mobile phones in the library is strictly prohibited other than for reading purposes.
If one book of a set is damaged or lost, the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole group or volume as applicable.
Readers are requested to follow the guidelines of the Copyright Act while photocopying a library book. The library never encourages or promotes the infringement of any Copyright Rules.
Readers should maintain peace in the library and should not disturb others in any way. Keep the Library premises tidy. Smoking and eatables are prohibited.
All the books should be returned at the end of the semester, and dues are to be paid. Collection of Library NO-Dues Certificate is a must for the reader on completing the course or before leaving the Institute.
