Library Professional Trainee
About the Program: The Central Library of the National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER) has initiated a program to recruit four Library Professional Trainees (LPT) for two years. This program aims to provide selected candidates with practical, hands-on experience in various library sections. The primary objective of the LPT program is to offer individuals an opportunity to develop their skills and expertise in library management, operations, and services. By working across different sections of the library, trainees will gain valuable insights into the day-to-day functioning of a modern academic library. During their tenure, trainees can expect to be involved in various activities, including cataloging and classification, circulation services, reference assistance, collection development, and library technology. They can work closely with experienced library professionals, learning from their knowledge and expertise. Upon completing the two-year program, trainees will be well-equipped to pursue careers in academic libraries, research institutions, information centers, and other related sectors within the library and information science field. The experience gained at the Central Library of NISER will be a solid foundation for their future professional endeavors.
Duration: 2 Years
Essential Qualification: First class in Master of Library and Information Science (MLISc) from a recognized Indian University/Institute
Job Profile:
Provide support in the use of library technology, including online databases, digital resources, and library management systems.
Awareness of the use and maintenance of the computerized library database.
Knowledge of searching and locating books and materials in online mediums.
Manage inquiries over the counter and via email or telephone.
Perform routine library tasks such as re-shelving library books, technical processing, circulation, etc.
Assist in developing and implementing library programs and events, including workshops and seminars.
Stay informed about current trends and developments in library and information science through professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.
Learn new skills and take new initiatives.
Age Limit: 26 years as of the last date of online form submission.
Remuneration: Consolidated stipend of Rs. 18,000/- per month with no additional perk. Selected candidates must work in shifts, six days a week.

Library Apprentice

Kolkata serves as the focal point for overseeing the process. The BoPT ensures that the recruitment process adheres to established standards and criteria, ensuring candidates receive quality training and experience. As Library Apprentices, individuals will have the chance to work in different sections of the Central Library, where they will be exposed to various tasks and responsibilities related to library services. Assist in cataloging and classifying library materials using appropriate systems and standards.
Aid in the organization and maintenance of library collections, including shelving, sorting, and inventory management.
Provide assistance to library users by answering inquiries, locating resources, and guiding patrons in using library services and facilities.
Assist in the implementation of library programs and events, including workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.
Collaborate with library staff in various administrative tasks, including filing, correspondence, and documentation.
Adhere to library policies, procedures, and ethical standards to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the library and the delivery of quality services to patrons.
Remuneration: Consolidated stipend of Rs. 14,000/- per month with no additional perk. Selected candidates must work in shifts, six days a week.
