This year, 140 students from the Worthington Orchestra participated in the NISD Solo and Ensemble Contest hosted at Eaton High School on April 12. These students worked hard to independently prepare a solo to perform for a highly qualified judge and recieve feedback and a rating for their solo.
Of these 140 students, 122 received a Superior rating from their judge, the highest possible rating, which is also a new Worthington Orchestra record!
Additionally, judges were able to select performances that they felt were truly exceptional as outstanding soloists for the day. We had 7 Worthington Orchestra students receive the distinction of Outstanding Soloist:
Summer String Camps
Summer string camps are a great way to gain new skills and meet new friends while learning fun, challenging music! Some are local "day camps" and some offer sleep away options - usually housed in college dormitories. These are particularly fun if you go with a friend!
Lake Murray Oklahoma Camp: June 9 - 13
Baylor Middle School Orchestra Camp: June 15 - 21
Rojas School of Music Summer String Workshop: June 23 - 26
Stephen F. Austin State University Strings Camp: June 22 - 28
UT Arlington Summer Strings Camp: July 6 - 11
UNT String Orchestra Summer Day Camp: July 8 - 12
Check out more Summer String Camp opportunities and information on our website HERE.
Community Orchestras
Community Youth Orchestras are a great way to continue playing outside of the classroom, take on a new challenge, make new friends, and learn new skills from highly qualified teachers and directors in the Fort Worth Area. Many of these Orchestra begin the audition process in May. Students who qualify by their audition will have scheduled rehearsal and concerts outside of school. If you can't get enough of Orchestra, this option would be for you!
