Director of Bands. Mrs. Quinlan comes to us from Grapevine, Texas. She is a graduate of Grapevine High school and The University of Texas at Arlington and holds a degree in Music Education. Her honors include: all-state flute player, graduating Magna Cum Laude and making the dean’s list every semester. While at The University of Texas at Arlington, she was a member of the Wind Ensemble and was the principle flute player in the concert band and served as a colorguard staff member. She completed her student teaching at Grapevine High School and Cross-Timbers Middle School under the supervision of Steve Andre, and Jolette Wine. Mrs. Quinlan has performed with top performing groups including the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps and Insignia Independent Winterguard.
Mrs. Quinlan began her career in 2004 at JJ Pearce high school in Richardson ISD. She taught the high school band and colorguard as well as beginner classes. During her years at JJ Pearce, the marching band made an appearances at the Texas State Marching contest. Recently, she was the director of bands at Forte JH in Azle, Texas. During her stay in Azle, the Forte band program achieved multiple UIL sweepstakes.
Mrs. Quinlan currently resides in Fort Worth with her husband Matt and daughter, Valerie. They have 2 dogs and 1 cat, Lucy, Ellie and White Tail.
Associate Band Director. Ms. Vokey is from Carrollton, Texas, a graduate of Creekview High School, and the University of North Texas, where she earned her degree in Music Education with a concentration in Trombone. In her time at UNT, Laura studied Trombone with Dr. Natalie Mannix, and performed with the UNT Brass Band, Concert Band, Trombone Choirs, Lab Bands, and the UNT Green Brigade. Laura has performed with the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps and Monarch Independent Indoor Percussion, and she actively performs with Sabor Puro, a DFW-based Cumbia ensemble.
Prior to coming to TMS, Ms. Vokey was a guest-educator in NISD, and then taught in Southlake, TX. She also teaches well marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles around the DFW Metroplex!
Director of Percussion. John Bingaman also serves as Director of Percussion Studies at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas. His drumlines have achieved high placements at the HEB, Plano, and Lonestar Drumline Contests. Prior to his appointment at Byron Nelson High School, John was the percussion director at John Horn High School where they placed third at the 2012 Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Festival in the standstill division. Mr. Bingaman’s students have made the Texas All-State band consistently with two as recently as 2021. Mr. Bingaman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. John performed with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra for five seasons and then played thirteen seasons as a percussionist with the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra. John was featured as a soloist with the orchestra by performing a marimba concerto in 2004. He is also an active percussionist, drumset player, adjudicator, and clinician in the DFW area serving on staffs such as the “Roll” Models Percussion Summer Camps and the North Texas Middle School Percussion Camp. Mr. Bingaman, an educational artist for Mapex/Majestic, has also presented percussion clinics at the 2019 TMEA convention, 2021 Art of Teaching Music Symposium, 2021 Stryvemind Director Symposium, and the 2021 Texas Bandmasters Association Convention.
