Thanks to all that came out for Donuts for DOGS last week. We know it can be rather chaotic with your children in the mornings at school, especially when all that sugar is involved! We had a great turnout last week and we understand that some may have not been able to sign up so we are sending this out for your consideration.
WATCH D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety. As a program of the National Center for Fathering, we have more than 4,704 schools in 46 states that participate in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, in addition to participation in China, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Barbados. Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator. Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center of Fathering. Learn more about WATCH D.O.G.S. here:
www.dadsofgreatstudents.com The goals of the WatchDogs program are to provide positive male role models for students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and prevent bullying. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.
If you are interested in signing up for this program, please note that every volunteer must complete an NISD background check yearly at this link: https://nisd.ezcommunicator.net/edu/northwest/ezcomm/VolunteerRegistration.aspx?app=0
Please allow 3 business days for your background check to be completed. You will receive an email when you have been authorized to be on the campus. To view available WatchDog slots and to sign up go to: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0949aaa922a6f49-watch1. You can volunteer twice per year per student (i.e. 2 kids = 4 times/year). Special situations will be considered and special events/watchdog events don't count toward that number. Only 2 WatchDogs will be on campus each school day (special situations will be considered). Sign up at least 1 business day before your WatchDog day. If you sign up for a Monday, cut off is noon on Friday. Be sure to allow time for the background check noted above. You will get a confirmation email and reminder email in advance of your signup date. Plan to pick up your schedule of activities for the day at 7:15am in the front office. You are encouraged to purchase at WatchDog shirt at www.dadsofgreatstudents.com.
