Science Snacks are "bite-sized" video segments focused on scientific concepts introduced to you at school paired with a snack recipe to make. While you snack, we will explore where your food comes from, healthy eating habits and careers associated with our concept and snack. We hope you get to enjoy the episode and snack with your friends and family. We hope you will be curious for more learning too!
"Grab your lunchbox and see what’s in store!"
In our Science Snack "lunchbox" you will discover:
The scientific concepts we introduce are from the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These are the learning standards educators use to teach our students. We will purposefully talk about concepts students are currently learning about in the classroom.
The recipes we pick will be quick to make and on a small budget. We want to use recipes that showcase family recipes from across Northwest ISD. Healthy food choices and preparation will be one of our goals. If you have one you want to share, complete a SnackRequest form.
Do you know where certain foods come from, or where they are produced?
In this segment we will introduce agricultural information on a key ingredient used in each recipe. Agriculture is part of our daily lives and we hope the bite-sized info will lead you to ask more questions about food!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
This segment introduces you to the careers that made the food your enjoying possible, or the type of scientist who study the concepts we are learning about. We hope this encourages you to learn more about potential careers and the planning you can start to help you achieve it!
Every now and then you will get to munch or crunch on the numbers! At times we will introduce charts or data, or even measurements, for you to think about or calculate. Following recipes and budgeting for food takes math!
We are constantly asking questions about what we observe or wonder about it. Books, articles, magazines and online resources really help us discover more information, correct information, or new information to ask even more questions! We will curate and suggest various reading lists with each episode to help you enrich your learning!
