As students learn and work, teachers are constantly evaluating student progress and overall mastery of the content and skills taught in our classrooms each day. Please remember, your student is learning! Everyday is a new opportunity and adventure in our classroom. Your support and encouragement will help your student grow, learn, and succeed everyday!
Each nine weeks, students will be assessed in four areas: Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Math, Science, and Social Studies.
If a grade falls below 70, students will have an opportunity to redo the assignment after reteaching and practice of the skill. The average of the two grades will be recorded in the Gradebook. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher for more information about your child's grades.
Formative grades are minor grades, such as daily assignments, class work, math workbooks, etc. These assignments assess content learned in class daily.
Summative grades are major grades, such as projects, tests, papers/final copy writings, etc. These assignments assess content learned in class over extended periods of time. Formative grades help students practice and prepare for summative grades. Summative grades are worth more.

"Grace Over Grades"
Your child is learning each and every day! We do not expect children to score a 100 on all assignments- we want our students to try and do their best! We love watching students struggle- this shows that they are actually learning the content and skills. We want students to be in the pit and productively work to learn! Students can always ask for help- we're there for them!
Talk to your child about what they're learning! Not sure what to ask- use this link for questions beyond "How was school?"
Encourage students to read every night for 20 minutes or longer
Encourage students to practice skills on Lexia, Imagine Math, and Education Galaxy
Ask students to practice writing stories and reports on different topics
Practice skip counting and multiplication facts- especially in the car!
Share new vocabulary and explain how things work to students
