About STEAM

What is S.T.E.A.M.?

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

What is a S.T.E.A.M. Book Challenge?

A S.T.E.A.M. Book Challenge involves reading a book, then connecting the story to a given challenge, similar to an experiment or exploration. The guidelines for the challenge will be given to you and should be followed, but you can redesign and attempt the challenge as many times as you would like to see how you can achieve different results.

How do I participate?

To participate in the challenge, simply read or listen to the book that pairs with the challenge. After reading the book, review the challenge guidelines and begin creating and exploring!

Feel free to take pictures or videos to document your challenge - share them with Mrs. Joseph through email (sjoseph@nisdtx.org) or Twitter (@hasletelemLib and @HasletElem). You can even bring your creations into the library for display during the designated week!
