What is Social-Emotional Learning

From CASEL's website: Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

SEL is about building positive relationships with others. It's showing empathy, showing respect, identifying emotions, being self-aware... for children, it's about being taught these skills; for adults, it's about modeling them.

SEL in Northwest ISD

Northwest ISD knows how important SEL is for our students, staff, and families. NISD has taken CASEL's SEL wheel idea and created the SELF Flower. We are continuously growing our SEL opportunities within our schools through various lessons, staff development, and committees.
