At eaton theatre we strongly believe that with a strong partnership between our staff, our parents and our community, will guide our students so that they can achieve the next step in their journey, becoming a theatre professional.
Many of our alumni have gone on to pursue degrees in the areas of design, film, acting, directing, and musical theatre from some of the top schools in the country such as Texas Christian University, NYU Tisch School of Drama, Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma University, University of Cincinnati, Texas State University, St. Edward's University, University of Texas Austin, and Boston University.
Additionally our students have interned and worked with some of the best regional community theatres in Texas one of the most recent being the nationally recognized theatre Casa Manana. Where they receive vital on the job real life training by those leading artists in the industry today.
After high school, if you're serious about working in the Theatre Industry, here are some next steps to consider:
Training and Education: Consider pursuing formal training at a drama school, university theater program, or through acting workshops and classes.
Building Experience: Gain experience through community theater, student films, or local productions to build your resume and skills.
Networking: Attend industry events, join local theater groups, and connect with professionals to build relationships and learn about opportunities.
Auditioning: Constantly look for audition opportunities for films, TV shows, commercials, and theater productions.
Online Presence: Create an online portfolio or website showcasing your work, headshots, and resume. Utilize social media to connect with industry professionals.
Financial Planning: Acting can be unpredictable, so consider financial stability and possibly finding supplemental income while pursuing your career.
Persistence and Resilience: Rejection is part of the industry. Stay persistent, keep improving, and believe in yourself and your talent.
By taking these steps, you can start laying a solid foundation for a career in acting post high school.
Our job,as educators, is to help guide our students and their parents through the maze of working as a professional in the area of theatre.
What does this look like?
FRESHMAN YEAR
This is a time for the students to learn as much as they can in all areas of theatre. We require, and encourage this. They have enough just getting familiar with high school and don't need to worry about graduation or what's to come.
SOPHOMORE YEAR
This will be the first time parents and directors will begin discussions regarding the pathway a student should begin to focus on.
This meeting will take place in the spring semester. By this time each student has worked with both program directors in the classroom and, has hopefully worked in some capacity on any of the shows produced to that point in time.
The goal here is to begin planning for junior and senior year.
JUNIOR YEAR
Two meetings take place in this year. One in the fall and one in the spring.
Fall meeting is a review of what was discussed sophomore year after which discussion will then move towards narrowing the pathway down and what options are out there in regards to college, certification programs and conservatory programs.
Internships are discussed at this time. Eaton theatre focuses on setting up summer internships with Casa for those students with a design emphasis and for the actors we focus on setting up internships in the front of house area for Casa's summer season.
Spring meeting is when we begin college preparation. Students and parents meet and discuss the students interest in colleges and what the admission requirements are and what deadlines are set. Dates are placed on the calendar for scholarship auditions at this time too.
SENIOR YEAR
September meeting with parents and student to touch base on upcoming auditions, college admission and acceptance.
By this time the student should have top four schools locked in and have auditions set up for these schools. Backup options will start to be discussed as well.
By the end of first semester student should have been admitted to some of the choices and finalizing scholarship needs so final decisions can be made as to which school the student will be attending.
