PILAR secures funding to improve and strengthen regional collaboration for patient and public involvement and engagement

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” (Helen Keller)

PILAR has been awarded funding from NIHR Centre for Engagement and Dissemination to undertake a small project to look at ways we can have stronger regional collaboration in the West Midlands.

Supporting public involvement during the COVID-19 pandemic

Shared commitment

Despite the difficult times we face currently with the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of social distancing, PILAR members and other research organisations in the West Midlands continue to support public involvement in research.

Patient & Public Involvement Workshops

Learning and Development

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Leads from the University of Birmingham, University Hospital Birmingham and PPI Advisors have developed a series of Patient & Public Involvement Workshops. The workshops are open to patients, members of the public and researchers in any area of health and social care, either preclinical or clinical.

Each training day will consist of two parallel sessions; an introductory and an advanced course with networking opportunities during refreshment breaks and lunch.

The workshops will have input from PPIE Leads (PILAR Members) from UHB, SRMRC, BRC, CLAHRC WM and PPI Advisors.

National Feedback Survey: What’s it like being involved in NIHR research? #MyNIHRPPIfeedback

What has been your experience of being involved in NIHR research?

If you are a patient, carer, service user or member of the public who has been involved in our work then we would like to know.

You may have helped design a research study, review applications, been a member of an advisory group or involved in our many other activities. However you have been involved, we want to hear from you.

NIHR is running a national survey asking patients, carers, service users and members of the public what’s it been like to be involved with us. We want to know if our public contributors think they have made a difference, whether they have felt supported and valued, received any feedback on their contribution, and how we can improve the way we work with them in the future.

The survey is not about people’s experience of being a participant in a research study.

The brief online survey is completely anonymous and the results will be published in March 2019. We hope it will give us some useful information which together with the UK PPI Standards will help us measure progress in future years.
