Project 1
______________
Develop specific research interest groups(s) to increase the amount of research addressing West Midlands health and care priority areas
Project Summary
_________
This project is about mapping and understanding the health needs of our local population, in ever more detail, through the judicious design and running of searches on increasingly linked digital systems. None of this will help identify potential participants and encourage them into research studies without understanding the barriers and drivers to motivate and engage them to come forward, providing understandable, culturally relevant, information through multiple channels and empowering them to ask to get involved. To achieve this, project expertise has been sought from both national and local Clinical Research Network (CRN) Business Intelligence teams, key Primary Care and Public Health professionals and a number of bodies that hold key healthcare records, including, NHS England Quality and Outcomes Framework Database, NHS Digital, Health Data Research UK and the Clinical Practice Research Datalink.

Dr Trevor Allen
Research Delivery Manager
Clinical Research Network West Midlands
Email: trevor.allen@nihr.ac.uk
I have worked for the Clinical Research Network West Midlands (CRN WM) since its creation in 2014 and am the Research Delivery Manager for Division 2 (Specialties = Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Metabolic and Endocrine, Renal and Stroke) and very recently Division 3 (Specialties = Childrens, Genetics, Haematology and Reproductive Health and Childbirth). My main research interests include multiple long term conditions (multimorbidity), stroke and musculoskeletal conditions. I am keen that everyone has the opportunity to be involved in research, whatever their condition, circumstance, or location. This links in nicely to my Progression Plan work on Project 1 that is all about how the CRN best meets the health needs of our local population.
