Beginning in spring 2023, the ILEARN scoring process for the writing prompt will be updated for students whose responses are classified as “Off Topic'' or “Off Purpose.” In previous years, students whose essays received these codes were automatically awarded zero points, and no additional scoring occurred. Responses that receive these codes will now be scored on the “Conventions” rubric, meaning that student responses could receive up to two points. Scoring with other rubrics occurs if an essay is on topic and consistent with the directions provided in the writing prompt
