Dr. Alivio was appointed Chair-Designate of the ACS DivCHED Public Relations Committee!
Dr. Alivio participated in the 2025 ACS Postdoc-to-Faculty Workshop as a faculty panelist. Thanks to Drs. Natalia Martin and Nicole Godellas for inviting Dr. Alivio!
Thank you, Dr. Melissa Reeves (Tuskegee University), for training Drs. Alivio and his learning assistants last June! We learned a lot from you; we are excited to introduce POGIL to Nicholls! Thanks to Dr. Sarah Bergeron, Dr. Chrystal Portier, Dr. Sulani Vidhanalage, and Ms. Rissa Insellman for joining us!
Dr. Alivio received a Large Classroom Transformation Grant from The POGIL Project! He also participated in the 3-Day Summer POGIL Workshop at Washington University in St. Louis (MO)! We are excited to implement POGIL in CHEM 105 and CHEM 106 at Nicholls!
Congratulations to Damjan for graduating! In Fall 2025, Damjan will attend Louisiana State University (LSU) as a Ph.D. student!
ARG welcomes Damjan Benoit to the group! Damjan will work on arithmetic fluency and ungrading!
Dr. Alivio participated in the 2024 Strategic Planning Retreat of the ACS Division of Chemical Education in Washington, DC!

Taylor successfully defended her honors thesis, "Sense of Belonging after Extra-Curricular Activities in First-Year STEM Students." Congratulations, Taylor!
Dr. Alivio and Nicholls ACS officers participated in STEM Fest 2024, hosted by the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans!
Dr. Alivio was invited to serve as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect Task Force member of the ACS Division of Chemical Education!
The Nicholls Center for Teaching Excellence invited Dr. Alivio as a guest speaker!

Claire is now Thibodaux High School's chemistry teacher!
Dr. Alivio participated in Transforming Institutions 2023 (jointly hosted by the Accelerating Systemic Change Network (ASCN) and the Network of STEM Education Centers (NSEC)) in Minneapolis, MN!

Dr. Alivio was elected into the Executive Board of the Nicholls Faculty Senate as Committee on Committees Chairperson!
Claire and Connor successfully defended their honors and senior research theses! Congratulations to both excellent students!
Claire's honors thesis is titled "Arithmetic Fluency of High School Students as a Function of Time." Claire's senior research thesis is titled "How Can We Foster Higher Levels of Student Preparedness and Success in General Chemistry?"
Connor's honors and senior research theses are titled "Natural Organic Matter-Mediated Synthesis of Precious Metal Alloy Nanoparticles in Aqueous Media."
Huge congratulations, Claire, for winning the 2023 Outstanding Chemistry Major Award! Claire was among five chemistry students honored at the 2023 College of Sciences & Technology Student Awards Ceremony. Fellow Nicholls ACS officers and awards recipient Vice President Courtney Pratinni and Public Relations Manager Taylor Thibodaux join President Claire.
Huge congratulations, Connor, for winning the 2023 ACS Louisiana Local Section Inorganic Chemistry Award! Connor previously won the 2022 ACS Louisiana Local Section Physical Chemistry Award!

🚨We have a brand-new Nicholls Aggie!🚨 Huge congratulations to Connor for being accepted into Texas A&M! He will join the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSEN) as a Ph.D. student! Connor will begin his journey as an Aggie this Fall 2023! 👍🏿Whoop! Gig 'em and saw 'em off, Connor! We are rooting for you!👍🏿 Connor joins fellow Nicholls Aggies Autumn Andras and Stone Naquin in Aggieland!
Dr. Alivio thanks Dr. Rudy Baum’s friends and family for giving us the highest honor of hosting a symposium celebrating his life and work and inviting them to the following luncheon. The late Dr. Baum remains an inspiration to young chemists!
Claire, Connor, and ARG friend Seth Pellegrin presented their research IN PERSON at ACS Spring 2023! Seth Bergeron from Dr. Darcey Wayment's group joins them. Nicholls ACS President Claire gave a second poster presentation about the Chapter. They met a new network of collaborators, and one of them is Nicholls Chemistry alumna Dr. Rebecca Dupre of the US Department of Agriculture!
Dr. Alivio will travel to ACS Spring 2023 as program co-chair of the Division of Chemical Education. His fellow co-chairs are Dr. Ryan Sweeder of Michigan State University and Dr. Patrick Daubenmire of Loyola University Chicago
We're going to Indy! ARG will attend the 265th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition (ACS Spring 2023) from March 26th to 30th, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN! Claire and Connor's travel was fully funded by:

Claire was elected President of the Nicholls State Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (Nicholls ACS)! Congratulations, and we wish you the best of luck!
Claire presented IN PERSON at the American Chemical Society's 2022 Southwest Regional Meeting this November! She SLAYED IT! The conference, hosted by the ACS Baton Rouge Local Section, was held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
Dr. Alivio attended and presented at the 2022 ACS Biennial Conference on Chemical Education at Purdue University! He learned a lot from the chemistry education research community!
Dr. Alivio published a co-authored article in the Journal of Chemical Education! The manuscript is about a physical chemistry laboratory experiment Dr. Alivio helped develop as a graduate instructional/teaching assistant at Texas A&M University! The article has been featured on the cover of the ninety-ninth volume (issue 7) of the Journal of Chemical Equation!
ARG welcomes Connor Lopez to the group! Connor will work on a materials science project involving the synthesis of precious bimetallic alloy nanoparticles!
Claire excellently presented virtually at the 96th Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences! This local conference was hosted by Louisiana State University at Alexandria!
Dr. Alivio published a co-authored article in Advanced Engineering Materials! Dr. Alivio is grateful to have worked with Dr. Aayushi Bajpayee on this project!
Dr. Alivio will serve on the Public Relations Committee of the Division of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society beginning January 2022!
Dr. Alivio was elected the new President of the Nicholls State Chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi! He was inducted into the chapter during the same Outstanding First Year Award Claire attended.
We are incredibly proud of Claire for winning Phi Kappa Phi's Outstanding First Year Award! Dr. Alivio was also inducted as Phi Kappa Phi's incoming president for 2022-2024!
Dr. Alivio was BioTAPped to serve as a member of the Communications and Networking Committee of the Biology Teaching Assistant Project!
Dr. Alivio was elected Member-at-Large of the ACS Louisiana Local Section 419. This local section serves the Bayou Region and Greater New Orleans!
Dr. Alivio presented the group's DEI efforts at the American Chemical Society's 2021 Southwest Regional Meeting last Halloween 2021 in Austin, TX! Claire excellently presented at the 262nd American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition! ARG wanted to go to Atlanta in person but the pandemic had other plans. Nonetheless, Claire was a complete rock star at her first ever (inter)national conference!
Claire has been funded by the Nicholls Student Government Association (SGA) to travel and present our research at the 262nd American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition (ACS Fall 2021) from August 22nd to 26th, 2021, in Atlanta, GA. She will have a unique chance to interact with the best of the best chemists and professors worldwide! Way to go, Claire!
The Alivio Research Group welcomes Claire Galloway, Katelyn Valentine, and Donovan Tullier! They will be great future PIs!
Dr. Alivio published a first-authored article in Journal of Science Education & Technology! This is Dr. Alivio's first ever publication (but not the first work) in the field of chemistry education research!
