What are Embedded Assessments?
Embedded assessments are also referred to as “classroom-based” or “continuous” assessments. Embedded assessments are assessments which make use of the actual course work students produce.
The assessments may be selected from the course work, which students do in various courses or may be designed overtly for specific assessment purposes.
Required assessments are single-benchmark measurements which align with the class course guide, program goals, and common learning outcomes and measure student learning.
Each course will have:
An assessment of a Common Learning Outcome (CLO) using the new org-level rubric
An indirect assessment (a survey provided by the College)
Optionally, programs/disciplines may collaboratively assess learners across course sections, using additional assessments such as:
An assessment of a Program Learning Outcome (PLO)
A common summative assessment
The course work selected for assessment will align with the class course guide, program learning outcomes, common learning outcomes, etc. They are not only used to evaluate student achievement, but also to gather data needed to make continuous improvements.
