CLASS
Celebrating Learning And Student Success
Who is the CLASS Team?
In June 2016 Northeast Iowa Community College joined the Assessment Academy cohort. During the initial meeting, the group developed an over-arching theme called Celebrating Learning And Student Success (CLASS) as the primary project for the College.
There are three major connections to the project:
Fully developing Common Learning Outcomes (CLOs) with systematic, repeatable processes that promote analysis and change.
Collecting, using, and promoting data as a tool for change and continuous improvements.
Creating a system for personal and professional growth for the College to promote a better understanding of learning and the role that every employee of the college plays in that process.
How do you become a CLASS Team member?
You may volunteer to be a part of the Class Team.
You may be asked to participate by a Dean or CLASS Team member.
Faculty Curriculum Mentoring Team
The Faculty Curriculum Mentoring team’s role is to guide faculty in their course guide development/revision processes and ensures that the process maintains alignment with the College’s learning assessment practices.
The Curriculum Committee, in support of the Faculty Curriculum Mentoring Team, oversees the alignment of course guides with our mission, vision, and philosophy. This is achieved by reviewing and approving new course guides as well as modifications to the existing ones.

Co-Curricular Team
Co-curricular programs are suited to the institution's mission and contribute to the educational experience of its students. Examples: Service learning, professional clubs or organization, athletics, honor societies, career services, etc. (Source: HLC)
Each co-curricular unit is expected to submit a co-curricular assessment plan that includes identified learning outcomes and methods to collect and assess data related to these outcomes. Subsequently, each unit provides periodic updated assessment plans and assessment reports that are reviewed by the Co-Curricular Assessment Committee on a regular cycle. The co-curricular assessment plans and reports are written following committee-defined rubrics.

Common Learning Outcomes (CLO) Committees
Common Learning Outcomes
In collaboration with the Data Evaluation Team and backed by administrative support to fulfill its mandate, the CLO Committee will be structured into several sub-committees. These sub-committees will include Critical Thinking, Effective Communication, Lifelong Learning, and Diversity.
The chief goal of these entities is to encourage an enduring advancement of pedagogical methodologies and learning, by initiating the recognition of and assessment metrics for each of the Common Learning Outcomes in all offered courses. Subsequently, the CLO sub-committees will maintain oversight on the assessment procedures, collate the results, and disseminate this information to all stakeholders of the College.
