Voorhees Viking Marching Band Attendance Policy
The success of the marching band depends on consistent attendance and dedication from all members. This policy outlines expectations and procedures to ensure the smooth operation of rehearsals, performances, and other band activities.
Part of becoming a responsible young adult is learning how to keep track of your commitments using a calendar. We understand that many of our band members are busy, involved students. Please read the attendance guidelines and expectations included below so you can fulfill your commitment to the ensemble.
Mark your calendar with all band events! All band dates are kept current on our Google calendar. If you see any band events for which you will either be late or must be excused, please contact Mr. Reynolds at least two weeks in advance via email (with parents/guardians cc'd on the email)
1. Attendance Expectations
· Attendance is mandatory for all rehearsals, performances, and scheduled events.
· Members must arrive on time and be prepared with the necessary equipment.
· Absences should be minimized to maintain the integrity of the ensemble.
2. Excused vs. Unexcused Absences
· Excused absences include illness, family emergencies, religious observances, or pre-approved academic conflicts.
· To request an excused absence, a written or emailed request must be submitted to the band director at least one week in advance (except in emergencies).
· Unexcused absences include work, non-academic extracurricular activities, and social events.
3. Consequences of Absences
· First Unexcused Absence: Warning issued.
· Second Unexcused Absence: Possible loss of performance privileges.
· Third Unexcused Absence: Meeting with the band director and possible removal from performances or the program.
· ***Excused absences may require an additional rehearsal with your section leader at the director’s discretion.***
6. Tardiness Policy
· Members arriving late must check in with a section leader or director.
· Three tardies equal one unexcused absence.
· Chronic tardiness may result in loss of performance privileges.
7. Emergency Situations
· In case of sudden illness or emergencies, members must notify the band director as soon as possible.
· Documentation may be required for verification depending upon the situation
8. Communication & Accountability
· Band members should communicate conflicts as early as possible via email, and parents/guardians should be cc’d on the email
· Section leaders are responsible for assisting members in staying accountable.
