The MTSS Process at Codington Elementary School

Definition

MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered System of Support, the name given to the graduated process used to support student learning. This process is also referred to as an RTI Method, or Response to Intervention Method.  These descriptors mean that data are used to design interventions and determine their effectiveness for each student.

Overview of the Process 

Tier I

 - all students within the school are supported within Tier I

 - includes instruction according to the standard curriculum

 - regular and ongoing reviews monitor student progress

Tier 2                                                                                 

- students who need additional support may receive Tier 2 interventions         

- a planning meeting occurs between a classroom teacher and parent               

- an intervention plan is designed and implemented within the regular classroom             

- periodic reviews evaluate student progress

Tier 3

- students who need more intensive support may receive Tier 3 interventions 

- additional assessments and comparison to district norms occur

- a planning meeting occurs with the MTSS Team and parent(s)                   

- an intervention plan is implemented and progress monitored by a grade-level specialist   

- periodic reviews evaluate student progress                                       

- MTSS Team may consider a formal evaluation for eligibility for special education support based on progress
