We are a class that combines both Beginning and Intermediate Vocal classes to grow in our musicianship together. Returning choir students who would not like to audition for a higher level will have the opportunity to mentor and grow in this class. This ensemble can be taken as many semesters as a student would like and will provide performance opportunities both semesters. Beginner Vocal is a pre-requisite for other vocal classes at NHHS and will give you the opportunity to learn the basics of how to be in a choir.
In choir, you can expect to build friendships, learn to read and perform music using your voice. You will have opportunities to perform with others in the choir setting. Students will learn to sing a variety of music with healthy vocal technique that can be applied to any musical style.
FAQ'S
Do I have to sing? Yes, but I will not ask you to sing alone in this class.
Do I have to sing in front of an audience? Yes, we will sing in front of an audience together for our performance.
Are performances required? Yes, a performance is one of the best ways to assess what we have learned and shows how you can work with others to accomplish some of the musical skills that you cannot show by yourself.
What if I cannot come to the performance? Let me know as soon as possible if you have something previously planned. An excused absence is possible depending on the situation. If I have two weeks prior notice from your responsible adult, or you have a family emergency, a make-up assignment will be available.
What kind of music do we sing? Will I know it? My goal for our class is to work on a variety of music. Some may be pop, broadway, or modern songs, but some of our repetoire will also reflect older genres such as the sacred and secular works that are created for formal choirs by important composers. You may know some of the music, and you may not. I just ask that you give it a chance.
