EA Laney High School PTSA
$500 Scholarship
The EA Laney PTSA scholarship program is designed to recognize seniors who have demonstrated academic success, exceptional leadership, and outstanding school and community involvement. Scholarships are awarded based on the recommendations of the Scholarship Committee through a blind review evaluation process and the availability of the EA Laney PTSA budget.
Eligibility Requirements: A student is eligible to apply for EA Laney PTSA Scholarship if he/she satisfies the following requirements:
Applicant is a graduating senior of EA Laney High School during the application period.
Applicant and/or parent/guardian is a current member of the EA Laney PTSA.
Applicant will attend a college, university, post-secondary institution, or trade school during the upcoming school year.
Applicant possess good character and leadership qualities.
Applicant has a satisfactory scholastic record - GPA 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Applicant demonstrates involvement in school activities or community service with leadership roles.
Applicant submits a personal statement (300–500 words) responding to the following prompt:
“Describe how you have contributed to your school or community and how you plan to make a positive impact in the future.”
Scholarship essays must be written entirely by the student. The use of AI tools or writing software (ChatGPT, Grammerly, etc.) is not allowed. Essays will be reviewed using AI detection tools. Any submission found to be generated by AI or not the student’s original work may result in disqualification.

Two (2) letters of recommendation from adults not related to the student or parent/guardian.
One recommendation should be from a teacher/staff member from Laney HS, preferably from someone who knows the applicant from participation in clubs, sports, and leadership roles.
Second recommendation can come from the community (coach, pastor, volunteer coordinator, etc), but could be another teacher, if needed.
Applications must be submitted by April 15th of the application year.
The Laney High School PTSA Scholarship Committee will use a blind review process, comprised of school staff and EA Laney PTSA Board members that will ensure fairness and impartiality to review all eligible applications based on the following criteria:
Essay quality (30%) – originality, clarity, and reflection of future impact.
Community and school involvement (30%) – demonstrated commitment to volunteerism or leadership.
Academic effort and goals (20%) – persistence, growth, and educational aspirations.
Recommendation comments (20%) - two recommendations are required.
Scholarship Recipients will be announced during the EA Laney High School Senior Awards Ceremony and recognized publicly by the EA Laney PTSA. Scholarships will be paid directly to the college, university, post-secondary institution, or trade school.
