Withdrawal Process
Step 1: Students, to begin the withdrawal process, click this link
https://cfcc.edu/registrar/withdrawals/.
Step 2: Check your CFCC email and wait for a Cape Fear Counselor to send you an email that will inform you, the student, to get permission from your high school counselor to drop the class.
Step 3: Forward the received email from CFCC to your high school counselor and let them know that you would like to withdraw from the class and the reason why. Please include the following information for your high school counselor:
· Student’s Name
· Student’s CFCC number
· Course to withdraw from
*Your high school counselor will then email your counselor at CFCC and include a statement indicating you have their approval to withdraw from your CFCC class indicated--counselors, please copy the student on the email sent to CFCC counselors*
Step 4: Once your high school guidance counselor has sent the email, you will need to schedule a phone conversation with your CFCC counselor you received the original email from. You will not be withdrawn from the course until you have this phone conversation! At the time of the conversation, you will need access to your CFCC student email account so that they can coach you through an online form you must complete in order to close the request.
Q. What is the withdrawal process for Seniors?
• Access to a Wi-Fi connected device or broadband in order to complete courses offered online may not be available;
• Community college course content may not be able to be completed in an online format;
• Community colleges may not have the capacity to offer remote learning;
• High schools may be closed resulting in no access to community college course;
• Students/family may have health or other personal reasons to not be able to complete the course due to the pandemic.
• Other COVID-19 related reasons verified by the HS Principal
If one of the above reasons results in a HS senior needing to withdraw from a CFCC course in Spring 2020, the following steps should be followed. Note that all withdrawals made from CFCC courses will result in a grade of “W” appearing on the student’s official CFCC transcript. These “W” grades may negatively impact a student’s future ability to receive federal Title IV aid if the student enrolls at CFCC after high school graduation.
Step 1: High school counselor, CDC or liaison determines whether or not a Withdrawal is in the student’s best interest. PECHS and WECHS Liaisons will provide information to the Early Colleges and work with the HS Principal and Counselor to determine the Withdrawal need.
Step 2: If a withdrawal is the best option, the student sends a written request to withdraw to the HS counselor, CDC or liaison. PECHS and WECHS students will send the Withdraw request to their respective Liaisons. Preference for written documentation is an email from the student’s CFCC email account.
Step 3: HS counselor, CDC or liaison forwards the student’s written request to the Registrar at CFCC at registrar@cfcc.edu with the subject line “COVID-19 Withdrawal Request.” PECHS and WECHS student Withdraws will be forwarded by the respective Liaisons. The email must contain the following information:
a. Student name and CFCC ID b. Course from which they are withdrawing, including section if known, ex. ENG-111-
01IN c. Reason for withdrawal request, i.e. No Internet access; Courseload too heavy;
Student is unable to complete coursework; etc.
Step 4: Withdrawal requests will be processed within 48 hours. After the withdrawal has been completed, the Registrar will send confirmation back to the HS counselor, CDC, or liaison via email, with a copy to the CFCC CCP coordinator.
Note that this process applies only to HS seniors unable to complete a CFCC course during Spring 2020. Dually enrolled sophomores & juniors should follow the regular established withdrawal process by contacting withdrawals@cfcc.edu
