This year, students are expected to read every night for at least 20 minutes and study. Students typically have science and vocabulary to study. Dedicate about 10-15 minutes to each subject area. Use resources given in class and posted online to study.
Occasionally, there may be unfinished assignments that also need to be completed at home.
Students have a science journal that will contain all of the information necessary to be successful on classroom quizzes, district benchmarks, and the 5th Grade Science EOG. Students are responsible for copying notes during class about the content and vocabulary we are learning. This is the main resource for studying science. It should go home each night and return to school each day.
Students also have access to Quizlet, an online flashcard resource, that will contain all of the vocabulary for each unit. This is another great way to study at home. See Google Classroom and student links here on my website for the links.
Students will have vocabulary words for a week at a time and they will be tested at the end of the week. The vocabulary tasks will be done mostly at school, but studying should be done each night at home. Students may choose to bring their vocabulary folders home to work with the words and study. Help your child notice when these words could be used in the real world! Frequent practice and making connections will reinforce learning.
See the classroom newsletter each week to find out the words we are currently studying.
