Who are we?
Who are we?
Vérène Nicolas - Facilitator: is a co-founder of the Nonviolent Global Liberation (NGL) project and also certified with the Center for Nonviolent Communication. She lives in Glasgow, Scotland and has been involved in grassroots initiatives for close to 30 years. Her main recent project has been to participate in creating the NGL global network. Founded by Miki Kashtan, and stewarded by a core group of 30 or so people from across the globe, NGL is an entirely collaborative project and deeply rooted in nonviolent principles. It's dedicated to supporting individuals and organisations to walk the path of nonviolence and develop visionary systems to address some of the most thorny challenges we face as activists and collectives. Vérène is delighted to be joined by Shar and Elkie to facilitate this training in person (as so much of her NGL work happens online) and hopes this might open doors for ongoing practice in the field of practical nonviolence and collaborative leadership in Scotland.
Shar Molloy - Facilitator: Shar first engaged with nonviolent communication (NVC) in 2010 and has been an environmental activist in Australia for over 25 years. Shar is currently the Vice President of the Australian Conservation Foundation and was the executive director of the Environment Centre of the Northern Territory for over five years. Shar is an Associate of NGL and a facilitator in the Work that Reconnects, who trained with Joanna Macy. She is passionate about bringing systems change, compassion, deep connection, and trust in life into collective activism. Shar is grateful for the work of Miki Kashtan and NGL, which offers principles of 'aligning means with ends', the 'capacity lens' and 'creating change without recreating the past'. After living in community in Scotland for five years in the 1990's, Shar is thrilled to be returning to ancestral lands and joining Vérène and Elkie in sharing this precious and visionary work.
Elkie Deadman - Facilitator: Elkie's background is in theater and is inspired to weave nonviolence and performing art together in forms which are new: neither protest nor resignation - neither for or against and beyond ideas of 'good' and 'bad'. Elkie was certified as a nonviolent communication teacher in 2013 and since then has focussed on sharing nonviolence and nonviolent communication within organisations and the political arena. She enjoys blending depth with fun and contemplation with play. Elkie is a Seed Steward of the Women In White Project (https://nglcommunity.org/women-in-white-project) and holds this project close to her heart at this stage in her life
