What if you had all the support you need to play your part in bringing about a world that works for all, and in community with others where 'walk' aligns with 'talk'?
Given what is unfolding within and around us, connecting with this vision can be extremely difficult. This is especially true given that many of us have encountered repeated challenges in our efforts to contribute, whether in activist movements, grassroots initiatives or just when caring for friends and families in need. How can we find meaningful ways to mobilise, stay resourced and do it with others in a way that is both within integrity and capacity?
The three of us offering this training are part of visionary projects that engage deeply and in practical ways with what it takes to cultivate nonviolent and collaborative ways, in community with others, and with deep care for personal and collective capacity. We are passionate to seed webs of support and communities of practice across the world inspired by the precious things we are learning. By chance, the three of us will be in Scotland this summer (from the Netherlands, Australia and… Glasgow!) and we had the idea of offering this 5-day workshop for anyone who resonates with our vision.
The tool kit we’ll tap into is inspired by the work of Joanna Macy, Marshall Rosenberg, Miki Kashtan and many others. We’ll have plenty to share and want to follow the energy of the group to create maximum learning, connection and capacity building.
Here are a few areas of practice that will guide our time together:
vision: how do we increase our capacity to focus on what we are aiming to create, beyond opposing what we see around us?
mourning: what personal and collective practices can support us in mourning the gap between our vision and the current reality?
liberation for all: how do we work for a world that works for all, not only for those who are like us or agree with us?
collaboration: how do we relearn, even while working for change, to distribute leadership, increase trust, and ground leadership in care for the whole?
The 5 days will be hosted by Verene Nicolas and Shar Molloy from the NGL community, and Elkie Deadman from the Women in White project. It is offered on the basis of the gift economy and will happen at Sauchie Home Farm near Stirling. Participants will be asked to organise their own accommodation in the area or to bring tents and/or campers to sleep at the location. We will organise lifts from and to the train/bus station and will also provide refreshments and lunch.
Some of the training deliverables:
To better understand why we so often encounter situations of conflict and disconnection in our lives and groups we are part of, and to bring compassion to our human condition;
To respond to moments of intensity by naming what’s important to us and give space for the other to express what’s important to them
To start naming patterns of socialisation that explain how we get stuck in situations of stress and conflict and transform emotions of guilt, shame or anger into grief and compassion;
To recognise when we judge ourselves and others, and transform those negative thoughts into feelings, needs and simple requests to ourselves or others;
To understand how patterns of socialisation play out in collectives and places where we seek support, and how we can start transforming this by building systems to nurture care, engage with conflict, give each other feedback, take collaborative decisions and more.
