Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome back to our second term of the year. I hope you all had the opportunity to relax and reconnect during the break.
Over the October break we were delighted to have 2 overseas trips that allowed our learners to follow their passions and interests and experience a truly immersive week in the areas of high performance swim training and Drama and theatre in London's West End! Read our learner reviews of the trips in More>Celebrating our learners section of the newsletter. Our first week back saw Deepavali celebrations and whilst these were mainly focused around Primary it was great to see some of our secondary learners sharing their cultural heritage with their peers. There is plenty more to celebrate where Nexus learners are concerned, with Science superstars and Model United Nations and Rei, Elleanor and Ishita going to Harvard for the Tournament of Champions as the final round of the World Scholars competition.
As teaching staff we spent time last week collaborating as part of our Professional Learning Day. We continually strive to ensure our staff have access to research-based pedagogy and practice, global experts and up-to-date innovative research so they may continue to deliver the best possible learning opportunities. Our Secondary teachers are subject specialists and team collaboration builds trust, accountability, confidence and strength. Please take a look at our Recent Events tab to see what we've been up to. Our Secondary teachers are subject specialists.
This term sees us launching important events with learners and families as we ask our Year 9 learners to consider their IGCSE choices for Year 10 and our Year 11 learners to consider their IBDP choices for Year 12. Please come with your children to hear more about our IBDP on the 9th of November and our IGCSE programme on the 24th of November. It may seem early to be making choices for next academic year but in order to plan the timetable where learners in years ten above have personalised programmes requires time! Option choice information also helps us plan our staffing which needs to planned well in advance to ensure all children receive the high standards of education that we expect at Nexus. Even if your child is not in Years 9 or 11 you are welcome to join us to find out about the future pathways your child will take at Nexus.
We want to make our curriculum, and what happens in school as understood and transparent as possible. To support this we share a window into the classroom through Canvas and provide curriculum booklets in the parent zone and run Parent Workshops to help you understand more. If you want to sign up to the Parent Workshop please use the button on our Upcoming Events page.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Best wishes
Dr Heather
