Year 12 learners have been studying Art as an area of knowledge in their Theory of Knowledge lessons. Over the last two weeks they have been focusing on photography and this week we were really privileged to have a presentation by Sam Hardy who is an extreme photographer. He showed the students some amazing photos he has taken while skydiving and base jumping and got our learners to discuss the photos as works of art. Sam also discussed the service projects he has led in Africa and learners shared their service experiences so far. It was a very inspiring talk and really beneficial to our learners to have someone show links between CAS and TOK.
After the talk Sam showed the learners his parachutes and wing suit. Some even got to try them on!
On Wednesday 20th October all of the Secondary School learners brought in their loose change and tutor groups then competed to see which one could make the longest line of coins in the Sports Hall. The contest was a good deal of fun and was hotly disputed between Year 9 and Year 7 teams but in the end it seemed that 7G produced the longest line of coins.
At the end of the event all the coins were swept up and collected by Year 12 who will be purchasing sports items and other equipment to support people in Indonesia when they go on their CAS trip on October 6th.

This week saw the start of the National Youth Achievement Award CCA (NYAA). 10 enthusiastic learners from Year 10 and 11 signed up to start the Bronze Award which involves 15 hours of Service, 6 months of Skills development and 20 hours of Physical Recreation spread over a 6 month period.
The Bronze Award will culminate in an overnight Adventurous Journey which involves learners navigating their way to the location, setting up camp, cooking their own food and doing some fun team activities and jungle walking.
During our introductory session this week learners spent some time getting to know each other followed by an outside session where they learnt to put up tents. The session finished with some basic first aid training.
Anyone requiring more information please visit the Nexus NYAA website.
