We are so proud of all of our MYP learners. Each and every one of them have been up on the stage performing in a play in the last two weeks. Drama at Nexus aspires to cultivate creativity by encouraging our learners to be brave, explore their imagination and express themselves through role-playing. Our Learners are able to step into the shoes of different characters, gaining empathy and understanding different perspectives. The year 7's are at the start of their MYP journey and have just showcased their learning in 5 brilliant class performances of the Greek tragedy Antigone. We are super proud of the hard work they have put into this.
Drama is also so important for communication skills, especially in the digital age we live in. Our learners articulate their thoughts, and engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers. Furthermore, drama fosters teamwork and collaboration, as learners work together to create and rehearse performances, enhancing their ability to cooperate, commit and compromise within a group setting. The Y8's have been performing extracts of the Ghost play 'The Woman in Black' in their lessons, and learning how using production elements can help create a truly terrifying atmosphere. Drama provides a safe space for learners to explore emotions and personal experiences, facilitating emotional intelligence and self-awareness and we are thrilled with the work the Y8's have produced.
And finally, the year 9's performed in a whole class production of Romeo & Juliet. For some, this will be the end of their drama journey, and we are so proud of how far they have come developing confidence, teamwork, grit and determination. By embracing the performing arts, learners develop confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to think critically and creatively, fostering holistic growth and lifelong skills that extend far beyond the stage. What a fantastic way to end the year.
