Dear Parents and Guardians
I'd like to wish a Happy Mid Autumn Festival to all our families who celebrated last week. 愿明月与你常相伴,照亮你的健康和幸福的生活。
This week has seen us recognising the United Nations Global Goals. We have been raising awareness and making connections between the sustainable development goals and our learning and the world around us. Our learners have been involved in vegan bake sales looking at using more sustainable ingredients , climbathons and dress up as well as hearing from the Green Collective how our choices as consumers can make a difference. They have also been finding out more about the charity Pipal Tree who supports the development of sustainable communities in Nepal. As an IB World School it is essential learners make authentic connections to the world to give their learning context. Synthesising information from different sources is a higher order skill that is needed for academic success and one which frequently promote within Nexus.
It is great to be able to do more now restrictions have lifted. Theatre company Paper Birds joined some of our learners for a workshop in verbatim theatre last week and Nexus hosted the International School Libraries Network. We have also been able to collaborate face to face with colleagues from Nexus Malaysia and share our use of technology for learning with senior members of the Vinschool from Vietnam. These collaborations make us all stronger as we establish connections with others to improve our understanding and learn from each other. Collaboration is an essential part of relationships at Nexus and I am hoping our Year 7, 8 and 9 learners will experience plenty of opportunities for this as they go on their residential trips next week. These trips are what we remember from school, where we learn more about ourselves and create lasting memories and build strong relationships. Thank you to all the staff who are supporting these and making things happen. It is no mean feat to coordinate events for this many learners and they do it because they understand the value it has for learners.
Please read on to see the other sections of our newsletter where different areas share what is happening and we share important information and upcoming events.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Best wishes
