A focus of the last two weeks has been Careers and University Guidance. Years 9 to 12 enjoyed fabulous talks from two of our parents, Mr Bill Andersen and Mr Mike Truter, who were so generous in giving of their time to talk learners through their careers.
One of the speakers' most important points was that careers can change dramatically which means that adaptability and transferrable skills are very highly prized in the workplace. The second most valuable lesson was that learners should follow their passions - doing a job you are passionate about is vital for fulfilment and satisfaction.
Parents and guardians of learners in Years 10 to 12 were sent information giving an overview of Careers Guidance this week. A copy of it is here. Learners in these year groups have been invited to attend an upcoming evening University Fair at SunTec City on 23 February which will help to get them thinking about life after Nexus.
As per the date list below, Year 11 and Year 13 Study Leave begins on 23 April, a few days before the exams begin. After the Chinese New Year holiday learners will get individual timetables detailing which exams they will be sitting and when.
This week's Study Skills Parent Workshop gave attendees a good idea of how learners are supported with developing study skills in school, as well as helping parents to think about how to support their children at home, touching on the environment, nutrition and a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
The build-up to the Lunar New Year has created lots of excitement. Learners in Years 7 to 9 supported Primary School learners to learn traditional crafts, guided by some of our Chinese parents and teachers. Today's Lion Dance was a hugely popular event, as always; so many parents came in to school to experience the spectacle with us.
Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai!
