A rich relationship with your child doesn't have to cost you expensive holidays or huge amount of gifts. The more positive and meaningful interaction you put in your child, the healthier and more trusting the relationship between you and your child would be.
Here are 3 ways to invest in your child's emotional bank:
Be present with your child. This could be during dinner or watching a show together. Put your phone away and be in the moment with your child. Attend to your child mindfully when they speak to you.
Respond to your child based on what they need, not what you like. As your child steps into the teenage years, they would want to experience more privacy and independence than what you like. Negotiate to compromise would require some shift in your comfort zone.
Don't shame or blame when mistakes happen. Your child needs to know that your love for them is not based on good behaviours only and that they can trust you to share about any difficult feelings without the fear of being judged.
