Please note that we have three school closure days in Term 3 for Chinese New Year.
These are:
Monday, 31 January, Tuesday, 1 February & Wednesday, 2 February
Other important dates for Term 3 are:
CCAs start on Monday, 24 January
Learning Conferences Thursday, 3 and Friday, 4 March (school is closed to learners on Friday 4th so that teachers, families and learners can meet online). Details of how to sign up through the Parent Portal will sent soon.
Please check your child has either the latest version of the SafeEntry app or a working token to support SafeEntry check-in each morning. A working token should have a light flashing every minute. If it does not, it needs to be manually scanned which slows down the entry process for your child and others.
New tokens can be obtained for free from community centres; you can find the nearest one with a vending machine here.
As the IB Diploma Coordinator, I have supported learners in choosing their IB Diploma subjects for a number of years. There is a list of questions that you as a learner must ask yourself when you are deciding. The priority that these questions are given will be different for each person, depending on your personal goals. Take a moment to read them through, how would you rank them?
What do you love?
What are you good at?
What will get you the best overall IB points score?
What leads to a university degree of choice?
How will the subjects you choose, fit together?
Sophia Parunova, an IB alumnus wrote an excellent blog post for the IB on just this topic. Please take a look and start to think about the subjects you'd like to take next year.
Subject selection forms will go out on Friday the 28th of January and will close on Friday the 11th of February.
If you would like to talk over your ideas, please contact me at brown.m@nexus.edu.sg. I'd be happy to help. Our Year 13 learners are also a great resource. Rafeeqa in Year 13 contributed the last point in the list of questions above. If you'd like to speak to someone who has been through the process, I'd be happy to arrange.
The IB Examinations run from 29 April to 20 May. Please note that the schedule was updated in November 2021.
IGCSE exam boards publish the examination timetable in December. IGCSE examinations run between the last week in April to 20 June.
Please note examinations may fall on public holidays, during school holidays and in the evenings.
Please may we remind all families that at school learners are expected to wear masks at all times (except when involved in sports or eating/drinking).
We are noticing that a number of learners have masks that do not fit securely. This is particularly true of the reusable masks, where the elastic ear straps or the wired nose bridge become loose over time.
This weekend, please may you check your child's masks fit securely and remind them of the importance of wearing their masks properly at all times.
