Dear Parents and Guardians
I hope you have had a good week. Last week we enjoyed Nexus Beats and saw the diverse musical tastes and incredible talents of learners from across the school. There was a diverse selections of songs on offer, very much reflecting our multicultural community here at Nexus. It was great to see learners performing music from across several decades and being brave enough to put their own influence on well known classics. There were also original pieces from learners who bared their soles and wrote their own lyrics and music to tell their stories.
At Nexus we are all about empowering learners and the purpose of Nexus Beats is:
To provide opportunity for talented musicians to plan and produce their own work, and perform in front of an audience
To provide performance opportunities for other performing artists: DJs, Dancers, MCs
To provide opportunities for technical work, by assisting the staging of a musical event:
including Sound, Lights, Roadies (assisting musicians), Stage Management
To provide opportunities for Artists for Design and Promotion, including a poster for the concert.
Please have a look at the Arts page where you will find more information about this event.
There are more opportunities for learners to feel empowered and discover their passions in the remaining weeks of the term. We have MADD week and Diversity & Inclusion week coming up as well as well as recitals and concerts and a climbathon. We will also be supporting Epilepsy awareness by wearing our pyjamas on the last day of term to support a learner led project that has been going for many years. Empowering learners to take action around the things that matter to them not only builds learner agency it strengthens self-belief and confidence which are essential for success. Our Year 12 learners engaged in Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) this week showing how they can take action and step outside their comfort zones. Please continue to help us by supporting learners taking action.
Enjoy the long weekend and Vesak day
Best wishes
