Dear Parents and Guardians
I hope you have had a good week.
It was lovely to see so many of you online for the consultation around our proposed new school day and it has been great to have your questions following this. The model may look busier but the reality for many secondary learners will be that they have 5 subjects in a day. The proposed model is similar to that used in many successful international schools and the two week timetable really does give us the flexibility we need to share the facilities effectively with primary and facilitate learner subject choices at IB and IGCSE. As always, if you need clarification please check with the school to avoid misinformation.
While staff are busy helping Y13 and Y11 learners prepare for exams some are also leading teams of examiners and preparing international exams for November sittings. Many teachers have now completed MYP training in preparation for teaching Y7 in August and planning for this new curriculum is well in hand. As an empowering learning focused community, Nexus is always looking to make sure staff and learners are knowledgable and informed. Ms Lussenhop in the library has some great suggestions around reading in the Important Notices section of the newsletter. There are many academic studies that show the links between vocabulary and academic success. Encouraging reading is just one of the many ways you can support your child to be the best learner they can be.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Best wishes
Dr Heather
