The start of term has been such a positive experience for everyone in the community. As usual well over 170 new learners have joined Nexus and we have done our best to give them the warmest of welcomes, along with their parents, guardians and wider families.
Our new staff have settled in really well and it is a pleasure to work alongside Nicola Jordan (Bi and Multi-Lingual Language Learning), Sarah Baldock (Humanities/Geography), Gabby Zhou (Subject Leader: Chinese Second Language), as well as our new colleagues in the Primary School.
It seems extraordinary that since the start of term we have already held four trip meetings, a Parent Welcome Evening, our first Parent Workshop, a trip to New York City, celebrated our best ever IGCSE results and much else besides.
We are very pleased that a large number of parents and guardians have now downloaded the Teamie App from the Play or Apple stores. This App allows parents and guardians to receive updates and notifications on learning progress and is an ideal way for us to share your children's learning directly with you. We continue to work closely with the developers and are tailoring the product to our needs so any feedback would be gratefully received. If you have any issues with using the App to access the Hub then please drop into the IT team in the C1 pod but this video gives you an overview of the download and login process. We hope you will enjoy this increased involvement in your child's learning.
As well as the Hub we have a variety of other communication tools which include:
Another exciting way to find out more about our learning community at Nexus is to come along to our weekly Parent Workshops. These take place in the Mulitpurpose Room (on Level 2) every Tuesday at 8.30am. To find out which Parent Workshops are coming up and to register your interest click here.
This week's presentation was an introduction to The Nexus Way given by Judy Cooper, our Principal, myself and Paul Beach, Head of Primary. The slides from the presentation can be viewed by clicking here or by choosing the Parent Workshops section of this Newsletter.
We are also pleased to publish our calendar for 2019-2020. Next academic year will be a very exciting one as we transition to our new school. This has meant slight adjustments to our teaching calendar to provide staff with time to prepare our new school to be ready to open its doors in January 2020 whilst ensuring that we provide a full academic year of study days. The calendar can be found on our website or by clicking here.
Please note due to our move, the start date of the 2019-2020 academic year will be starting slightly earlier than previously published. Our start date will be Monday, 5 August 2019.
For those of you new to our community, this newsletter is a Google website with multiple pages. You can access those pages by clicking on the three horizontal lines at the top left of the page when viewed on a phone. There is so much more to see other than this front page!
The Nexus Parent Group page has a good overview of their work and upcoming events; they are looking for volunteers to support their work.
The Sports/CCA page contains important information about the season's coaching sessions and sporting fixtures, as well as the CCA overview and an introduction to a new trip for Nexus: a ski trip in 2019!
As always there are plenty of Upcoming Events to read about and there are reports on Recent Events to enjoy in the appropriately-named page, as well as on the Arts page.
We all look forward to working alongside your sons, daughters and wards to support them on their journeys to becoming strong, resilient, well-rounded and successful learners.
Peter Hart, Head of Secondary School
